After an ongoing test series between India and Bangladesh, the two teams are set to lock horns in the shortest format of the game, starting from October 06 in Gwalior. They will play a 3-match T20I series, and the BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) have announced their squad on Sunday (September 29). The BCB has called up all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the T20I squad after almost 14 months. He missed the last 24 T20Is that Bangladesh has played. After Shakib al Hasan announced his T20I retirement, Bangladesh’s chief selector thinks that Mehidy Hasan Miraz could replace him in a similar role.

BCB announced the squad for the India T20I
Bangladesh Cricket Team is on a tour of India for 2-match tests and 3-match T20I series. Team India won the first test by 280 runs and the 2nd test is currently going on in Green Park, Kanpur. After the test series, the two teams will lock horns in T20Is, starting from October 06 in Gwalior.
The BCB has announced a 15-member squad for 3-match T20I series. There have been a few changes in the team since Bangladesh’s T20 WC 2024 squad. A legendary Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib al Hasan has already announced his T20I retirement, and Soumya Sarkar hasn’t been included in the squad.
The selectors believe in Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the successor of Shakib al Hasan
The BCB has included all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz following Shakib al Hasan’s retirement from T20Is. Shakib al Hasan has already announced that he has played his last T20I for Bangladesh and wanted to finish his test career after playing a two-match series at home against South Africa (SA).
Bangladesh’s Chief Selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain thinks that Mehidy Hasan Miraz can fill the vacant spot left by Shakib al Hasan. They have picked Mehidy to bat up the order in T20Is without a set bowling role.
Ashraf hoping Mehidy will play Shakib’s role going forward
Bangladesh’s chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain feels that Mehidy Hasan Miraz can play the role that Shakib al Hasan used to play in the shortest format of the game. He also praised Shakib al Hasan for his services to Bangladesh over the years. “It’s already official that legendary Shakib Al Hasan has played his final Twenty20 international match for Bangladesh. Although we don’t have a replacement for his performance and expertise,
we believe Mehidy Hasan Miraz is a capable middle-order batsman. – Gazi Ashraf Hossain said (Quoted by us).
While talking about Mehidy’s non-selection in T20Is, Ashraf said they didn’t want to upset his rhythm in bowling. They feel that the off-spinner is a handy all-rounder is Tests and ODIs. Ashraf said – “We normally believe that he has a significant role as an all-rounder in Tests and ODIs, hence we didn’t pick him for the previous [T20] World Cup.”
“We thought his bowling wasn’t a very good option for the T20 powerplay. His rhythm in the other formats wasn’t something we wanted to mess with. We had explained to him why he wasn’t included in our T20 World Cup plans. Ideally, he will be positioned higher in the order, somewhat above the finisher’s role.” – He added.
A call-up for Parvez and Rakibul, Sarkar misses out
Other than Mehidy Hasan Miraz, BCB has included Parvez Hossain Emon and Rakibul Hasan in the T20I squad. Parvez, the left-hand opener, wowed the selectors in off-season camps, according to Ashraf. Rakibul, on the other hand, gets the nod because left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam is injured.
Parvez is in the plans of the selectors, said Ashraf. Talking about the changes in the team, Ashraf said they have made changes in the opening, middle order, and spin attack while keeping the pace attack intact.
The experienced batter Mahmudullah has also been there in the squad. They believe in Mahmudullah and the management will value experience as well.
Bangladesh’s squad for the 3-match T20I series against India:-
Najmul Hossain Shanto (Captain), Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Parvez Hossain Emon, Tawhid Hridoy, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Rakibul Hasan, Mahmud Ullah, Litton Kumer Das, Jaker Ali Anik, Mehidy Hassan Miraz.
Conclusion
So this is the latest development from Bangladesh. They are not in a great position as far as test matches. Bangladesh has lost the first test and despite not having 2 and a half days of games, they are under some kind of pressure with the Indian batters making a match out of it. They will look to rectify themselves in the T20Is.
As far as Mehidy Hasan Miraz, we have seen him doing well with the bat in tests and ODIs. He has scored runs, built long innings, and went after the bowlers whenever required. Mehidy has been a capable batter, a good bowler, and a good fielder. He is a utility player and can play the role in the middle order in T20Is.
Let’s see how things go in the T20Is. What do you think? Who will win the upcoming T20I series between India and Bangladesh?
