Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has now formed a special committee to review the Bangladesh cricket team’s performance in the ICC WC 2023. The committee consists of three members, with BCB director Enayet Hossain Siraj will act as the convener of the committee. We will give you all the details regarding this in this article. So be with us.

BCB formed a committee for the performance evaluation of the Bangladesh cricket team

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has now formed a three-member special committee to evaluate the performance of the national cricket team. Along with Enayet Hossain Siraj (convener of the committee), Mahbubul Anam and Akram Khan will be the other two members. BCB announced this on November 29.

BCB said the committee’s objective is to scrutinize those factors that lead to the underperformance of the team. “The committee’s objective is to scrutinize the factors contributing to the team’s underperformance in the tournament and it will subsequently present its findings to the Board,”- BCB said in a statement.

Bangladesh cricket team’s performance in the ICC WC 2023

Bangladesh won the first game against Afghanistan by six wickets while chasing 157. Then, they went on to lose 6 straight games in the round-robin before winning against Sri Lanka. They even lost to the Netherlands. Bangladesh cricket team didn’t even come close to chasing 230 against the Netherlands, losing by 87 runs. They lost their last match against Australia by 8 wickets.

Bangladesh cricket team finished at No. 8 in the points table. They were just above the Netherlands and Sri Lanka because of a better net run rate (NRR). They were the first team to get eliminated from the tournament.

In the last 4 ODI WC editions (2007, 2011, 2015, and 2019), they won at least three matches, with 2015 their one of the best where they reached the quarter-finals.

A controversy before the tournament

Before the Bangladesh cricket team entered the tournament, there was some controversy going around. Tamim Iqbal announced his retirement with immediate effect and reversed his decision within 24 hours after talking with the country’s PM. Eventually, the team management and the selectors left Tamim Iqbal out of the WC 2023 squad.

There were some differences between captain Shakib al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal as well. Shakib al Hasan didn’t want a half-fit player in the team, directing towards Tamim. Those things made things more vulnerable for the Bangladesh cricket team.

A few people were called up by the panel for the evaluation

A special committee has called the BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin, and Habibul Bashar (member of the selection panel) in the process. Mushtafizur Rahman and Litton Kumar were also called up by the panel.

After a meeting, the BCB convenor of the committee, Enayet told reporters about how they are going in this process. He said they are discussing it with everyone. Also, Enayet said it is not an inquiry. He said they are talking to everyone so that the failings the team has in the WC 2023 will not be repeated in the future.

Enayet said they will hand over the report to the board after they end. He said – “It’s the initial stages (our findings ) and when we end we will hand our findings to the board and they will give you all the details.”

No rush in this process

The committee still hasn’t talked to the head coach Chandika Hathurusingha and captain Shakib al Hasan. Although, Chandika Hathurusingha, Shakib al Hasan, and team director Khaled Mahmud had given their report of the World Cup earlier.

BCB officials said there is no deadline to complete the findings. So there is no rush in the process. Also, the Bangladesh cricket team is playing a test series against New Zealand at home right now. So they don’t want to disturb them in between the series.

BCB officials also said because of the ongoing series and the upcoming white ball series against New Zealand, they will look for the right time to talk to them. They said whenever someone is available, the special committee will talk to them at the convenience of both parties.

Bangladesh cricket team is busy in the test series

Right now, they are playing a test series against the Kiwis at home. They are 1-0 up in the series. In the 2nd test, they bowled out for 172 on day 1. But they got them back in the game as they reduced New Zealand to 55 for 5. They will look to seal the series by winning the 2nd test. Bangladesh hasn’t won a test series against New Zealand till now.
