Chattogram Challengers has had a decent start to the BPL 2024. They have found themselves at No. 2 in the points table with 2 wins in 3 games. Now, they have signed the Brisbane Heat batter Josh Brown for the rest of the tournament. The decision came after the Pakistani batter, Mohammad Haris pulled out of the tournament due to the non-issue of NOC (No Objection Certificate) by the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board).
BPL 2024: Josh Brown signs up with Chattogram Challengers
The Chattogram Challengers franchise has signed the in-form batter Josh Brown for the BPL 2024. After the PCB denied an NOC to Mohammad Haris to play in BPL 2024, the team signed Josh Brown as an overseas batter option. Haris NOC was denied because he has already played in the two overseas T20 leagues between July 2023 and July 2024, as allowed by the PCB.
Josh Brown will arrive on January 26, in time to play the next game in Sylhet. Will he find himself in the playing XI is a thing to watch out for.
Josh Brown came into the limelight in the BBL
Josh Brown came into the limelight after his successful campaign with the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24. The right-handed batter ended up as the 2nd highest run-scorer in the tournament. He scored 366 runs in 9 games with an average of 40.67 and a strike rate of 150.62.
The 30-year-old has played an outstanding knock of 140 off just 57 balls, which also includes 12 sixes against Adelaide Strikers. He played another crucial inning in the final of the BBL against Sydney Sixers to win the title for Brisbane Heat. Josh Brown scored 53 runs off 38 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes.
Brisbane scored 166 runs on the board in the first inning before the bowling attack, led by Spencer Johnson did the job for the team. Sydney was bowled out for just 112 runs and the Brisbane Heat won their 2nd BBL title.
BPL over ILT20 for Josh Brown
As reported by the AAP, Josh Brown’s management had offers from the franchises from both, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and the International T20 (ILT20) League to sign the Australian batter. Eventually, he signed with Chattogram Challengers for the BPL 2024. He got the offers even before the BBL final.
What Josh Brown has said about this?
After his outstanding inning of 140, he has shown interest in playing in the league. He said if the opportunity came, would take it with both hands.
“Absolutely, I’d be interested. If the opportunity came up I’d take it with both hands. I’ve just got to keep scoring runs.” – Brown after his record-breaking 140.
Chattogram also signed Salt for the BPL 2024
Not only Josh Brown, Chattogram Challengers have also signed an Englishman Phil Salt for the tournament. Although, Salt will join the team after his stint in the SA20 and ILT20.
Chattogram Challengers predicted playing XI for the next game
Chattogram Challengers won their first game against Sylhet Strikers before losing to Khulna Tigers in the next one. They won their third game against Durdanto Dhaka and will now lock horns against Tamim Iqbal’s Fortune Barishal on January 27 at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Chattogram played with the same team in all three games till now. And they have found success in two of them. The only change they can make is to give a chance to an in-form Josh Brown in the playing XI. He is in good touch with the BBL and can make an impact for Chattogram Challengers as well.
Avishka Fernando might make way for Josh Brown at the top of the order. The Sri Lankan has played a good knock of 39 in the first game. But he didn’t make a significant contribution in the next two games. And because Josh Brown is an overseas player, only the other overseas can be replaced.
Chattogram Challengers Expected Playing XI Against Fortune Barishsal:-
