The BPL 2024 season will see the use of DRS technology (Decision Review System) which was not the case in the previous editions. BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) has signed a long-term deal with the organization providing DRS technology services. The BPL 2024 will commence with Durdanto Dhaka and Comilla Victorians locking horns in the tournament opener on January 19 at Dhaka. Today, we will talk about the use of DRS technology in BPL 2024 in detail. So let’s dive into it quickly.
DRS technology to be use in BPL 2024
After so many years of Bangladesh Premier League, the BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) has decided to include the DRS technology (Decision Review System) to cut down the wrong decisions by the umpires. The BCB faced heavy scrutiny for organizing matches without DRS on many occasions. But after confirmation by the BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury, it will not be the case anymore.
What did the BCB CEO say about this?
Previous to this, Nizamuddin Chowdhury, CEO of BCB, announced that the company and the DRS service provider had signed a contract that would last until 2027. He also said they are looking at it as a long-term. That’s why they have signed a long-term deal till 2027.
Domestic cricket will also see the use of DRS
Not just in international cricket and BPL 2024, but we will now also see the use of DRS technology in Bangladesh’s domestic cricket. Nizamuddin confirmed that news. Many other cricketing nations have also used this technology in their franchise cricket, international cricket, and domestic cricket.
The last BPL edition had ADRS technology
There was an ADRS technology available in the previous Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) edition. But there was no ultra edge in the last edition.
Not having technology brings out a few wrong decisions as well. And some close decisions as well which could have been here and there. Using a full-fledged DRS technology can be a good decision by the BCB.
Hawkeye technology in BPL 2024
The BPL 2024 will also see the use of Hawkeye technology. BCB match referee Rakibul Hasan stated Hawkeye technology will also be added to it.
No more wrong decisions by the umpires
Although the umpires in cricket are very accurate in making decisions. But they are the humans too. They can’t be 100% accurate like a robot. So sometimes they make a wrong decision which costs the team’s whole match.
But if there is a DRS technology in use, we can decrease the number of wrong decisions by the umpire. Not 100%, but to a greater extent. That’s why, technology is very important nowadays.
Conclusion
So this is the news coming in regarding the use of DRS technology in BPL 2024. Let’s see how much of an impact it can make in the tournament.
