T20 World Cup 2024 Bangladesh captain disappointed after knowing Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 shift
Bangladesh was set to play the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in front of a home crowd and fans. The ICC has approved hosting rights to BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) for the tournament earlier. They also unveil the schedule of the tournament in May 2024. But, after the student protest caused political unrest in the country, Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina resigned immediately and left the country.
Due to this political unrest in the country, the ICC shifted the tournament to UAE. After this shift, Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana expressed her disappointment while talking to the media. She was sad and left devastated as she wanted to play in front of home fans. Sultana is making an effort to accept the fact that she will not be able to represent Bangladesh in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in front of home supporters. She also said a lot of people tried to make her understand this shift in venue.
“For the last two days I was really sad and today I seemed a bit free because a lot of people tried to make me understand [the switch] in different ways,” Nigar told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
While discussing the shift, she mentioned that every player in the team, along with their family members, close ones, and friends, are eagerly looking forward to watching the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Bangladesh. She said – I had a lot of dreams and not only me it was the same for all the players because it is not only us who were waiting to play the World Cup in our country but our family also waited for it, like our friends, fans or our close ones. They were preparing in different ways for this World Cup.”
Bangladesh captain on new BCB president Faruque
Bangladesh captain also talked about the new appointment of BCB’s president Faruque Ahmed. She feels that Faruque is a former cricketer and will know the problems of international cricketers.
“I believe that since he was elected as the board president, those who made the decision certainly considered his experience. I think his knowledge of what we need will be helpful for the players, and for that, I am happy.” – Sultana said.
A former cricketer Faruque has worked as a selector as well in the past. It will help him to understand the obstacles that international cricketers have to face. Bangladesh captain Sultana feels it will take time before we understand how good Faruque will be for them.
“Look it will take some time because when he starts working can we understand how good he is for us and what is likely to happen? Because he played cricket I can say that he is well aware of what the obstacles are that we usually face. Earlier he worked as a selector and a long time ago he was also in women’s selection at that point, I was in the camp for the first time and not as an important player so he might not remember me from that time.” Sultana on new BCB president.
Sultana on the importance of cricketer working as an administrator
Sultana stressed the importance of someone working as an administrator who played cricket before. She said no one understands these things better than a cricketer.
“He has the experience, and more or less the people who will work for the benefit of cricketers will be welcomed by the cricketers. No one understands these requirements better than a cricketer. Therefore, if those involved in cricket step forward to work for the cricketers, it will only help for a betterment.” – she concluded.
