Every team who loses the game did quite a few things wrong to be in that situation. But, there is always a moment in which the losing team did well. Today, we will see what are the three positive takeaways for the visitors in this IND vs BAN first test in Chennai. So let’s dive into it quickly.
IND vs BAN 1st Test : Three positives for Bangladesh in the Chennai Test
(1) Hasan Mahmud’s performance
The Bangladeshi pacer has been in outstanding form since that historic Pakistan tour. He has played a huge role in Bangladesh’s 2-0 win against Pakistan. Now, he has shown his worth in this first IND vs BAN test.
Bangladesh won the toss on a cloudy morning in Chennai and decided to bowl first, considering the pitch conditions. The decision seems to be a good one as the pitch is assisting the fast bowlers. The new ball bowlers, Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud hit the right area and made the Indian top-order batters’ life difficult.
Hasan Mahmud, particularly has been extracting a bit more from the surface. He exploits the conditions to a good effect and makes early inroads. The right-arm pacer squared Rohit Sharma and took his wicket. Shubman Gill got strangled down the leg side but the most important was the wicket of Virat Kohli.
Hasan Mahmud bowled in that 4th or 5th stump channel and forced Virat Kohli to chase the ball outside off-stump. Virat nicked the ball to a keeper Litton Das.
He then took Rishabh Pant’s wicket and India was 144 for 6 at one stage; courtesy of Hasan Mahmud. The two spin-bowling all-rounders, R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja steadied the ship for India and took the score to 376.
Hasan Mahmud took a fifer after his last wicket of Jaspreet Bumrah. He also becomes the first Bangladeshi bowler to take a fifer in India. His performance with the ball in the first inning will be one of the positives for Bangladesh in the first test.
(2) Nazmul Hossain Shanto leading from the front
Although Bangladesh lost the first test, captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto performance in the 2nd inning will be one of the big positives for the visitors. Bangladesh’s batting hasn’t fired the whole game. No batter has applied themselves well to play a long inning in the first inning.
In the 2nd inning as well, Bangladesh were bowled out for just 234 runs, that too with the help of Shanto. Shanto applied himself well in the 2nd inning and took calculated risks against the Indian bowlers. He respected the good balls and tried to score runs whenever the opportunity arose.
He scored 82 runs in 127 balls with 8 fours and 3 sixes. His batting performance will give him much-needed confidence and the other batters. The other batters will also be inspired by this inning and look to rectify it in the 2nd IND vs BAN test.
(3) Bangladesh bowled well in patches
Another positive for Bangladesh would be their overall bowling performance. They bowled well in patches, as we discussed above. At one stage, they reduced India to 144 for 6 before Ashwin-Jadeja took the charge.
Mahmud was already mentioned in the above point. Other than him, Taskin has also started well with the new ball, supporting Mahmud and putting the pressure on the other end. Nahid Rana, a fast bowling sensation from Bangladesh has also bowled some quick spells to the Indian batters. He even bowled a few good short balls to the Indian batters and made them uncomfortable IND vs BAN .
Mehidy Hasan Miraz has also tried his best with his off-spin, supporting the pacers. In the 2nd inning as well, Bangladesh again started well with the new ball, taking the first three wickets early.
Conclusion
So these are a few positives that the visitors can take from the first IND vs BAN test. They bowled well in patches and will look to apply the pressure for a longer duration in the 2nd test. Also, their batting unit needs to fire collectively if they want to put pressure on the Indian team. Otherwise, it will be another cakewalk for the home team.
Bangladesh came here in the series with a lot fo confidence after a historic series win against Pakistan. The hype of the series was also there but the visitors got the reality check. They know how good Team India is at home.
Let’s see how Bangladesh does in the 2nd test. The 2nd test will commence on September 27 in Kanpur. What do you think? Will Bangladesh even challenge India and level the series in the next game? Or will India continue its winning run in home tests IND vs BAN ?
