A record-breaking IPL 2024 auction happened in Dubai on December 19 and we have seen some amazing buys from the different franchises. The most noticeable one was the Aussie Pacers going for big bucks. Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins have been bought by KKR and SRH for a whopping INR 24.75 crore and 20.50 crore respectively. RCB, on the other hand, hasn’t had the best of the auction in recent years. Today, we will give you the full details regarding Royal Challengers Bangalore’s RCB IPL 2024 squad. So let’s dive into it quickly.
RCB Bought Six Players in the IPL 2024 Auction
RCB had a total purse of INR 23.25 crore before the IPL 2024 auction. They have to fill in 6 slots, 3 of which should be an overseas slot.
In search of an overseas fast bowler, they bought the West Indian pacer Alzarri Joseph for INR 11.50 crore. They went for a few other fast bowlers as well including Mitchell Starc. RCB tried hard to get Starc on their side. But KKR won the bidding war in the end.
Tom Curran and Lockie Ferguson are the two other overseas picks by the RCB in the IPL 2024 auction. The former has been brought in for INR 1.5 crore and the latter with a base price of INR 2 crore.
As far as the Indian players’ slots, Yash Dayal has got a very good contract from the RCB. RCB bought him for an INR 5 crore in the auction. An uncapped player like Swapnil Singh and Saurav Chauhan also gets the nod. They went to RCB for INR 20 lakhs each.
RCB’s Retained and Released Players List
Before the IPL 2024 auction, RCB retained a total of 17 players including big names like Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, etc.
The franchise had released a total of 11 players before the auction. Those players are – Avinash Singh, David Willey, Finn Allen, Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood, Kedar Jadhav, Michael Bracewell, Siddharth Kaul, Sonu Yadav, Wanindu Hasaranga, Wayne Parnell.

How Far will RCB go in IPL 2024?
RCB is a team which has a very loyal fan base. Despite not winning any IPL title yet, their fans always support the team every year. The franchise has a very rich history with a lot of big players like AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle, Shane Watson, etc having played for the franchise over the years.
This team always looks good on paper with a lot of superstars in the team. But they failed to capitalize and haven’t won a title yet. Their best chance was in 2016 but fell short against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final.
This year, they might not have a very good IPL auction. But cricket is a game of uncertainty. Who knows maybe their combination clicks this year.
Faf du Plessis will lead the side and the onus will be on the KGF (Kohli, Glenn, and Faf) again. As far as the bowling is concerned, they went hard for Mitchell Starc and some other pacers, but couldn’t get the upper hand. They have Alzarri Joseph and Lockie Ferguson along with the Indian option of Mohammad Siraj for an out-and-out pacer.
RCB didn’t have a reputed and quality spinner in the team. They will have to make their combination accordingly. The trading window is still open after the auction. They have to look into the options for a spinner. Let’s see how the tournament panned out for the franchise.
