Royal Challengers Bangalore’s dream of winning their first ever Indian Premier League IPL title remains this year also when Gujarat Titans (GT) knocked them out of IPL 2023 last league stage game. Thanks to Shubman Gill’s outstanding hundred, which helps GT to chase down a target of 198 with 5 balls and 6 wickets left. RCB has lacked in so many departments, whether it is in bowling, middle-order batting, and fielding. Today, we will talk about the 3 players RCB might go for in the IPL 2024 auction.
RCB has so many great players who played for the team and are still playing. But they haven’t lived up to the fans’ expectations and won an IPL title yet. One of the main reasons for RCB is performing as a unit. There are some individual performances from some players, but they failed to do well as a team. They need a reshuffling to be able to go hard next year in IPL 2024. And for that, they need players who can play certain roles that are required.
We have picked the three names that could be in RCB’s consideration for the Indian Premier League 2024. Let’s see one by one.
3 Players RCB might look for the IPL 2024
1. Rovman Powell
Rovman Powell is one of the most powerful hitters of the cricket ball in world cricket right now. He has made a reputation and the bowlers feared bowling to him. One of the main reasons for his success is his ability to hit those Yorkers. He gets under the ball and used his power to clear the ball to the fence.
RCB looking for a big hitter
Powell can be the answer for RCB’s search for a big hitter after AB de Villiers. We know that filling AB’s shoes is not an easy task, but Powell can be one of those players.
RCB sometimes failed to get the momentum at the back end of the inning due to a lack of power hitters. Their cream is at the top with Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, and Glenn Maxwell.
At one stage, in IPL 2022, Dinesh Karthik played that role. But he wasn’t able to replicate that performance in IPL 2023.
Powell’s IPL numbers
Powell made his IPL debut in 2022 with Delhi Capitals. Since then, he has played 17 matches and scored 257 runs with an average of 19.77 and a strike rate of 146.02. His highest score in the IPL is 67 not out, which is his only 50+ score.
Delhi didn’t use him well in IPL 2023
Delhi Capitals haven’t used Rovman Powell in the IPL 2023. Powell only played 3 games in the season. DC also had a very horrible season as they were the first team to get eliminated from IPL 2023.
Let’s see if Powell gets into the RCB setup or not.
2. Ishan Porel
The Bengal medium pacer has been in the Indian domestic setup for so many years. He has done well in the domestic circuit and has been with the Punjab Kings franchise in IPL 2021. But he only gets the opportunity to play one game that year. Porel played that game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and took one wicket after giving 39 runs in his 4 overs.
A perfect Indian pace option for RCB
Ishan Porel has done well in domestic cricket for Bengal. The youngsters have the height which could help them to generate more bounce from the wicket. He will be the perfect Indian pace bowling option for RCB in the IPL 2024.
With him in the playing XI, it will give RCB an option to play another overseas player instead of investing in an overseas fast bowler.
3. Pat Cummins
Cummins could be the perfect new ball partner for M Siraj in the IPL 2024. He has the ability to pick wickets with the new ball. Also, Cummins bowling with the new ball will give RCB an opportunity to keep more overs of Siraj for the later part of the inning.
A handy batter lower down the order
Not just with the ball, Cummins can contribute with the bat as well. We have seen him playing some crucial innings for Australia and for the other teams in the IPL.
His previous IPL teams
Cummins started his IPL career with KKR in 2014-15. He played for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) for one year in 2017.
Then, he came back in the IPL after three years in 2020 with his first IPL franchise KKR. He played for KKR from 2020 to 2022.
Cummins opted out of IPL 2023, citing a heavy international schedule.
Pat Cummins IPL numbers:-
Cummins has played 42 IPL games and scored 379 runs with an average of 19 and an outstanding strike rate of 152.
With the ball, he took 45 wickets till now with an average of 30.16 and a strike rate of 21.18. His economy is 8.54 with the best figures of 4 for 34.
