Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) smashed Delhi Capitals (DC) and now sitting at the top of the IPL 2024 points table. They register their 3rd consecutive win of the tournament. A collective batting effort from KKR helps to register a 2nd highest total in the Indian Premier League IPL history. Sunil Narine becomes the player of the match for his 85 and equals the record of most Player of the Match awards for KKR in IPL.
Sunil Narine lays the platform for KKR
After winning the toss in Visakhapatnam, KKR decided to bat first. Phil Salt was looking good as he played some good shots in the powerplay. Sunil Narine, again proved his worth as a batter at the top of the order. After struggling for the first few balls, he started to look comfortable at the crease. Phil Salt’s inning didn’t last long, but Sunil Narine got into his groove. The left-hander reaches his half-century in just 21 balls at the end of the powerplay.
Raghuvanshi’s fairytale IPL debut against DC
KKR included a youngster, Angkrish Raghuvanshi in the batting line-up. He joins Sunil Narine at the crease and wastes no time. He continues to play his shots and especially his six over third man against Rasikh Salam was eye-catching.
Narine continues his good work even after the powerplay. Along with the youngster, he added 104 runs for the 2nd wicket. Mitchell Marsh broke that partnership in the 13th over. Raghuvanshi completes his fifty in just 25 balls in the same over.
Sunil Narine scored 85 runs off just 39 balls with 7 fours and 7 sixes. It’s his highest score in T20 cricket.
The final touch from Rinku and Russell
The two big KKR big hitters did what they were supposed to do. Both the batters went after the DC bowlers and at one stage, it looked like they could break the 277-run mark made by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) a few days ago.
Rinku Singh made 26 runs off just 8 balls, which includes four and 3 sixes to Anrich Nortje. Andre Russell also made 41 runs off just 19 balls.
Russell got bowled by a beauty from Ishant Sharma in the last over. The Indian pacer conceded just 8 runs in the last over. KKR fell just 6 short of making the highest total in IPL history. But they have made the 2nd highest total in IPL history.
Delhi Capitals lost early wickets in a run chase
DC lost early wickets in a run chase of 273. And whatever outside chance they had was also finished. They lost 4 wickets for just 33 runs inside 5 overs.
The only positive DC can go with after this game is their captain, Rishabh Pant looked in good touch. Pant scored a fluent 55 runs off just 25 balls. Tristan Stubbs also scored 54 runs and along with Pant, he added 93 runs for the 5th wicket. But that was the only real partnership for DC in that game. After that partnership, they got bowled out for 166 runs in 17.2 overs. DC lost the game by 106 runs, which is the 2nd biggest for them in IPL, in terms of loss by runs. It’s the 2nd biggest win margin for KKR as well in IPL. Other than that, a few more records have been made in this game. Let’s see them one by one.
Most sixes by KKR in an inning in IPL
KKR hit 18 sixes in the first inning. It’s the highest they have hit in an inning in IPL. Also, it’s the highest number of sixes hit in an inning against DC in IPL.
Narine equals the record with Russell
Sunil Narine becomes the player of the match (POTM) for his 85 with the bat and 1-29 with the ball. It’s his 14th POTM award for KKR in IPL, equal to Russell. Andre Russell also has 14 POTM awards for KKR in IPL.
