We already knew that he was going to participate in the elections. Shakib won the seat by beating a rival by a huge margin of 150000 votes. He won a landslide victory in the general elections (GE) boycotted by the opposition.

A 36-year-old will now have to manage his cricketing career alongside his new role of MP.

In Bangladesh, we have already seen their former cricketer Mashrafe Mortaza, a former cricketer entering politics. Shakib’s decision might be influenced by that as well. But he will now have a huge role to play as he is a role model for so many people around the country.

Not the first time Shakib has come under the spotlight for his behavior

Shakib al Hasan has been a very legendary player for the Bangladesh cricket team over the years. He has been admired by the fans in the country. This is not the first time that Shakib’s violent behavior has come out. In a Dhaka Premier League (DPL)  match a few years ago, when an umpire denied his lbw appeal, he uprooted the stumps and kicked, throwing them down, and shouted at the umpires as well.

In another example, he broke the glass of a dressing room in an incident during an international match. A few other incidents also happened where Shakib al Hasan lost his cool.

Will he retire from cricket?

While asked about his retirement plans, Shakib denied it. He said he hasn’t announced his retirement yet. So why this question is coming out? He said all of this during campaigning.

Shakib returned to the cricket pitch a day after winning the MP election

Shakib Al Hasan has spent the last few days campaigning. The veteran cricketer, who was running for the first time in the election, had been campaigning day and night in various parts of the Magura-2 constituency. And on Monday, just 18 hours after being elected as an MP, he was spotted practicing at Mirpur Stadium’s indoor facility.

In the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League BPL 2024, Shakib will play for the Rangpur Riders.
