Home » Team India Is Set To Play 3 ODIs Against Australia In September

The ICC World Cup 2023 is less than three months away, and Team India is looking for a settled core group of players for the marquee tournament. Right now, they are facing some injury concerns as players like Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and P Krishna not playing any professional cricket due to their respective injuries. Team India has 12 potential ODI games left (considering India will play the Asia Cup 2023 Final) before the WC 2023. As far as home games are concerned, Team India will host Australia for the three-match ODI series before the ICC World Cup 2023.

8 confirmed ODIs, 12 if India reached the Asia Cup 2023 final

Team India will definitely have 8 ODI games to play before the WC, even if they got out of the Asia Cup in the first stage. But the chances of that happening are very less.

Team India will definitely reach in the Super 4s of the Asia Cup, and might also play the final as well. Only if India lost two games in Super 4s, then they will not be able to play the final. And cricket is a game of uncertainty, but it is highly unlikely.

India will play West Indies in 3 ODIs

Team India has 3 ODIs to play against depleted West Indies (WI). They will look to give chances to some of the players like Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Umran Malik, M Kumar, J Undakat, etc if possible. That is because of the non-availability of some of the big players.

Barbados will host the first two ODIs on July 27 and 29 respectively. The third ODI will be played on August 01 in Trinidad.

After the ODI series, Team India will also play 5 T20Is against WI starting from August 03 in Trinidad.

Asia Cup 2023

Team India will start their Asia Cup 2023 campaign against the arch-rival Pakistan on September 02 in Kandy. They will face Nepal on September 04 at the same venue.

Team India will likely to have 3 more games in the Super 4s. And if they reach the final, we will see a total of 4 games of Team India.

The last time when the Asia Cup happened in 2022 (T20I Format), they didn’t even reach the final. They will look to redeem themselves this time around.

Australia tour of India

Like a Warm-Up Match for Team India

This will be the last chance for Team India to try out different things and to make a settled combination for the ICC World Cup 2023.

Looking to fill the spots

Team India will try to find answers like who will be the No. 4 batter in case KL Rahul or Shreyas Iyer might not fit on time. They have Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan in contention for that role. Ishan might also be considered the 3rd opener after captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.

Backup keeper in Rahul and Rishabh’s absence

Ishan and Sanju will also be looked at as backup wicketkeepers in the absence of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul.

A backup for Jasprit Bumrah

Team India will look to find a backup option in the series if Jasprit Bumrah will not be fit for the WC 2023. It will be a big miss for Team India but they have some options in Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat, etc.

India vs Australia Schedule

The first ODI will start on September 22 in Mohali, followed by September 24 and 27 in Indore and Rajkot respectively.
