After a successful first season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), the next season is set to take place in February-March 2024. The 2nd season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2024) will be played in a home-and-away format, which was not the case in the inaugural season. Although the BCCI is planning to increase the number of teams in the tournament, it will not happen in the upcoming season. Just like the last season, there will be five teams participating in the tournament.

How many slots to fill in the auction?
In total, there will be 30 slots to fill across five teams in the WPL 2024 auction. Out of those 30 slots, 9 of which will be of an overseas.

A total of 60 players are retained and 29 players are released by the franchises. Gujarat Giants have released the most number of players. They released a total of 11 players and only retained 8 players.
WPL 2024 Auction: Extra amount to be given to all the franchises
Last year, the franchises had INR 12 crores ($1.11 million) to spend in the auction. This time, in the WPL 2024 auction, all the franchises will get an extra amount of INR 1.5 crore ($180000) to spend. The teams will look to get the most out of this amount and try to build a strong team for the WPL 2024.
Home and away format in the WPL 2024
This time, the teams will have some home and away games, unlike last season. The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has taken this decision to increase the fan following of the teams. The fans of a particular team will get a chance to see their teams playing at their home ground. Also, it will help the teams to take a home conditions advantage in the tournament, just like IPL (Indian Premier League).
Gujarat Giants has the most purse amount left
Gujarat Giants, who finished last in the WPL 2023 points table has the most purse amount left for the WPL 2024 auction. That’s because they released the most number of players (11 players) before the auction.
They have almost INR 5.95 crore ($715000) amount left to spend in the auction. The franchise needs 10 players in the squad. Out of those 10, they need 3 overseas players. Now let’s see their retained and released players list.
